- Buying my Ferrari red Valentine 1970’s typewritter from the cutest little shop in Barcelona with 3 generations of Spanish men helping me pick out just the right machine. I have spent many nights after my daughter goes to bed writting poems, letters, rants and I can’t recommend it enough. Romanticize life.
- Cooking up a massive pot of tumeric bone broth and serving it with rice, lemon and salt nearly every week since October.
- Hiring a face paint artist for my daughters (Ama’s) first birthday. She will not remember it but seeing all of my adult friends get their faces painted was delightful and I feel a much more accurate way of decerning ones spirit animal than any online test.
- Attending a dozen of late night concerts with Ama and only regretting it half the time.
- Discovering oil lamps and now my whole house smells like the ecuadorian rainforest + no toxins. Thanks Ursi.
- Painting my home studio walls gold.
- Started riding horses again, bought my first pair of chaps and completed my conversion from riding english my whole life to now dreaming of barrel racing.
- Stoped buying body lotion and started buying whipped tallow butter by the gallon, adding my own essential oils and throwing my new favorite body lotion in little jars.
- Went to physical therapy for the first time since being a teenage athlete and actually discovered how to hold and strengthen my neck properly.
- Talked to some incredible people, became reinspired by my work since becoming a momma, put out a dozen podcast episodes and launched RegenCircle’s Newsletter.
- Travelled to Nicaragua for the first time, deepened my love for central america and ate my weight in ceviche.
- Grew my backyard kitchen garden significantly and spend most afternoons in the summer feeding Ama cherry tomatos off of the vine and growing a disproportionate number of lemon cucumbers and squash.
- Went to Lov’d denim in boulder and got fitted in my favorite pair of jeans ever. A tip for all of the other tall women out there – stop buying womens jeans, just buy mens vintage levis and get the waist taken in if you need to. It cost $15 and at the ripe age of 33 I finally no longer look like I am waiting for a flood.
- Started the most adorable neighborhood trading system wherein our neighbors give us pottery they make and I keep them in produce from the garden.
- Decided to turn the base of a massive blue Spruce tree in our backyard into a Fairy house, intended for Ama but ended up mostly being for me. I went to Michaels craft store and bought miniature mushroom and butterfly stools and painted them, tied little bells to ribbon and hung them from the branches, laid out old rugs and sat under the skirt of our fairy tree through many summer rain storms.
- Took Ama on our first solo camping trip, broke a pole, didnt inflat the mattress properly but still had the best time.
- Got beehives on the property courtesy of Boulder Valley Honey and started taking bee keeping lessons.
- Entering a new stage in my marraige on the other side of grief and discovering this deep level of honesty that is confronting and relaxing all at the same time
- Ama getting onstage at dad’s show and headlining the susequent drum circle.
- Experiencing early 2000 fashion trends re-emerge and discovering I can buy my middle school wardrobe at Urban Outfitters for 5x what I paid for it in 2005
- Taking our first ‘we are kids too’ day with my husband and roaming around the forest with our mushroom friends
- Deciding to go to Burning Man 2 weeks before the event and spending 5 days on my own.
- Drinking Pixie Mead at Imagine festival on the magic island of Bellingham and hearing the wisdom of mama friends who are a bit further along the journey than me.
- Picked gallons of wild blackberries.
- Dialing in my child travel gear. Best two investments were this carry-on and this travel car seat.
- Endless summer days at the creek.
- AI pushing me further and further into an analoge life
- Fresh lemon balm and sage tea
- Moving our family to Spain for 6 months and watching Ama become bi-lingual in a matter of weeks
- Reading more than I have in a very long time and some of my favorites from this year were, Abundance, On All Fours, and Original Teachings (I like to genre hop 😉
- Shopping at the Mercados in Barcelona where you pick out your fish and then go to the little playground in the market while your fish is de-scaled and de-boned.
- After many years of admiring from afar purchasing 2 Limala rugs as a part of my quest to transition all of my purchases to artisan-made.
- Flowers and more flowers.
- Getting more comfortable using my voice in front of the camera and making major steps toward shedding self judgement
- Getting closer to my Cherokee (Tsalagi) ancestry
- Renting a camper van and exploring northern Spain with my family, one of my favorite and little known spots has become La Garrotxa which is filled with vibrant green fields, volcanic soil, fresh springs and rivers and super wholesome people.
- Making new friends on the internet and getting to spontaneously participate in their Olive Harvest
- Learning to love city life, walking everywhere and discovering what happens when you inturrupt the pattern of your life
- Being back in the land of Vermouth, im not a big drinker but if I am going to have a cocktail its going to be heavily herbacious
- Getting to live 3 blocks from my parents and seeing the absolute magic that is intergenerational living and raising a child near family. Firmly convinced communal living is at the center of the multitude of health crises we face.
- Stepping away from my career of 12 years to spend time with Ama and pursue my passion.
- Watching Chefs Table, every episode
- Turning my phone to greyscale, turning on the alert that tells you when you are holding the screen too close to your face and realizing we all need parental controls on our devices
- My redlight macheine
- Korean skincare, specifically this overnight mask.
- Making gifts for friends on no particular occasion, typewritten letters on solography photos, trying my hand at embriodering silk scarves, saving tobacco seeds from my garden and giving them away in pouches.
- Growing my hair out longer than since I was a teen, thanks to my new hair oil ritual plus the smell is perhaps my favorite part
- Seeing Gaudi’s buildings on a daily basis and realizing his career from the very start was about creating differently, witnessing the way he translated nature into form shows me that any industry, any system, can be made differently. All it really takes is a deconditioned mind and courage.
- Having my dear girlfriends who don’t have children live in our guestroom for periods of time and sharing the burden of child and home care and feeling far less alone in motherhood.
- Deepening my understanding and ability to communicate in spanish and expanding my empathy for immigrants and all people who have to spend their days speaking in a non-native tounge, always trying to communicate fully, and the struggle to be understood.
- First girls’ trip with my mom and my daughter and this medival town which is perhaps the most beautiful little place I have visited.
- My friends, my sisters, my husband and community. Investing in what matters, in the world I want to create, decentering individual achievement, recentering collective action, praying.
